“Blockchain in Action”, a new book by Manning press, includes a voting DApp as an example. It includes a smart contract for the voting process and some admin functions on setting up a project to vote on and such.

While there are numerous technical hurdles to overcome, I think voting via a blockchain type app could be very significant. I am not sure if a paper ballot is still part of the requirement, perhaps not. However, it has one potentially fatal flaw, a well-designed and implemented voting app would not give the politicians any recourse to manipulate the vote.

Witness the efforts to allow vote harvesting and similar schemes to undermine the legal deadlines and timelines of elections, and lack of adequate voter ID laws. Voting fraud is rampant given the sorry state of voter registration laws and roles that are filled with dead voters still voting.

As we found out in some previous elections, you don’t get to keep counting and recounting until you get the results you want. You only count legal votes that are delivered in a timely fashion.
