I agree with you completely. My last name sounds easy for me to spell but almost no one ever gets it right. It is not tricky, they just don’t hear it well I guess.

I was also very careful in naming my 3 sons. I gave them short first names of 4 letters like mine with many of the letters similar to mine. I gave them interesting and consistent middle names with slightly unusual spellings knowing they would normally only use the first letter.

And not that I am particularly religious but I also frequently refer to the bible’s claim that the first task God gave to Adam was naming all the animals. I used to mention this when I talked to and mentored programmers I worked with. I tried to emphasize how important it is to name variables with something meaningful.
